Requests for recognition, validation and transfer of credits must be completed by those interested after consultation with the college’s Prefecture of Studies.

REGULATION:

Resolution ENS/2869/2011, of 21 November, on the Recognition and Transfer of Credits, the Validation of Educational Courses and the Recognition of Individualised Credits and Other Specific Procedures in the Field of Higher Artistic Education (Catalan Govt. State Gazette – DOGC, no. 6024 – 14.12. 2011) (DOGC ENS 2869-2011. pdf) (DOGC ENS 27-2016.pdf).

Royal Decree 1618/2011, of 14 November, on the Recognition of Studies in the Field of Higher Education (Official State Gazette – BOE, no. 302 – 16.12.2011) (BOE 2011-19597.pdf).

General criteria

These criteria have been established on the basis of Article 10 of Royal Decree 635/2010, of 14 May, which regulates the basic content of higher artistic courses in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets (BOE, no. 137, 5.06.2010).

Furthermore, according to Resolution ENS/2869/2011, of 21 November, on the Recognition and Transfer of Credits, the Validation of Educational Courses and the Recognition of Individualised Credits and Other Specific Procedures in the Field of Higher Artistic Education. (DOGC 60024 – 14.12.2011).

And also in accordance with Royal Decree 1618/2011, of 14 November, on the Recognition of Studies in the Field of Higher Education (BOE, no. 302, 16.12.2011).

In accordance with this rule, at the beginning of each year the ESCRBCC provides general information to students on the procedures related to the recognition, validation and transfer of credits in the student guide, on the college website, and more specifically with informative talks at the beginning of the opening of each process. The Head of Studies is in charge of answering and resolving all those requests that apply to current legislation and those matters pertinent to the reports drawn up by the Pedagogical Committee. In all events, the first step for the student is a personal interview with the Head of Studies in order to analyse those subjects that may be subject to recognition, validation or transfer, and to provide information on the documentation required and the deadlines for this procedure (application form.pdf).

Once the period for the presentation of documents has ended, the Prefecture of Studies will draw up a report of the study, which is based on the previous reports drawn up by the Pedagogical Commission. Cases of recognition, will be directly resolved by College Administration. In cases of validation, the Director of the ESCRBCC, using the reports drawn up by the Pedagogical Committee, will forward the requests of each student and the academic certificates of the studies completed, and will propose those validations they believe to be justified to the General Management of Initial Vocational Training and Special System Education, which will determine the matter in hand.

The maximum period for determining and notifying the resolutions will be three months from the day after the request is entered into the register.

If the maximum period ends without any express resolution having been notified to the interested party, the request will be understood to have been dismissed on the basis of administrative silence.

Students may appeal against these resolutions to the General Director of Initial Professional Training and Special System Education.

If the recognition or validation of a subject is granted, after payment for this procedure, the decision is then registered in the student’s academic file and the resolution document is included in the records file.

However, with respect to the approval and validation of foreign titles and studies in non-university courses, it should be noted that the Department of Education of the Catalan Government is also responsible for this matter, in accordance with Royal Decree 1388/ 2008 of 1 August) and Decree 238/2008, of 2 December (DOGC, no. 5214 – 12/09/2008 and DOGC, no. 5272 – 04/12/2008). The applicable regulations are on the main web page of the Catalan Education Department in the section: The Validation and Approval of Foreign Degrees. The tasks of requesting and organising the documentation is the responsibility of the student.

The recognition of credits

Concept:

The recognition of credits involves the acceptance of those credits obtained in official courses within the European Higher Education Area by the Department of Education and which are evaluated with respect to the attainment of the official degree.

Scope:

Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.

It will not be possible to recognise those credits that correspond to an end-of-course or Master’s thesis.

Rating System:

  1. The score obtained in the educational centre of origin will be that acknowledged.
  2. If there is no score, this will not be considered with respect to weighting.

1. Recognition of Studies pertaining to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

The relationship between the bachelor’s degrees in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets and the branches of undergraduate university course education in the application of the guaranteed minimum recognised credits is as follows:

University Degree Courses Higher Artistic Education Courses
Arts and Humanities The Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets
Sciences The Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets
Engineering and Architecture The Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets

A minimum number of ECTS credits is established for guaranteed recognition between related degrees. In this case, it has been established that between the undergraduate university courses in the table above, and the Higher Courses in Conservation and Restoration, recognition will amount to a minimum of 30 credits (Royal Decree 1618/2011, of 14 November on the Recognition of Studies in the field of Higher Education (BOE No. 302, 16.12.2011).

2. The Recognition of LOGSE or Previous Studies.

There are a significant number of students at the ESCRBCC, with a background in Spanish LOGSE studies. These students usually hold diplomas or degrees in different disciplines (History of Art, Physics and Chemistry, Communication Sciences, etc.) and it is therefore very difficult to establish a precise and accurate equivalence table that is able to consider all cases.

Some general criteria are therefore proposed on the basis of each case being treated individually. The basic criteria for recognising established credits will however be taken into account at all times.

3. Recognition of the Degree of Advanced Technician in Creative Arts and Design, or an Equivalent Degree.

As stated in Article 10 of Royal Decree 635/2010, of 14 May, which regulates the basic content of higher artistic education in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets (BOE, no. 137, 5.06.2010) , educational administrations will recognise those who possess the degree of Advanced Technician in Creative Arts and Design, these credits will correspond to the subjects of basic training and specialised training when the specialised area of the course is directly related to the specific skills of the course taken.

Given that it is very difficult to establish a precise and accurate table of equivalences that covers all cases, some general criteria are proposed from which each case will have to be treated individually, however the basic criteria for the recognition of established credit scores will be taken into account at all times.

4. GENERAL CRITERIA:

  1. The recipients will be students enrolled at the ESCRBCC
  2. The recognition applies to the higher degree and to the Master’s degree.
  3. Those credits corresponding to an end-of-degree or end-of-master’s degree project being undertaken by the student will not be recognised.
  4. With respect to those subjects that are subject to recognition, the score obtained at the educational centre of origin will be calculated. Non-rated credits will not be taken into account for the purposes of weighting.
  5. External curricular work activities undertaken at the centre of origin may be subject to recognition, either in whole or in part.
  6. A maximum of 60% of the total credits of the degree being studied will be recognised.(144 credits)

5. SPECIFIC CRITERIA:

  1. The student must provide the degree obtained with other studies and/or the academic certification of the subjects studied, in addition to the detailed list of the contents of these subjects.
  2. The credits will be recognised, taking into account an adjustment between the skills and contents of the subjects studied and those provided for in the course that the student is taking. In specific terms at least 80% of the content must correspond to the same educational and skill areas of the course being followed by the student.
  3. The duration of the recognised credits must be at least 80% of the duration of the credits that are to be recognised.
  4. The two previous conditions must be met in order for recognition to be awarded.
  5. All credits will be recognised if a file is transferred between Spanish autonomous communities when a student wishes to continue the same studies.
  6. When a new special subject area of the same degree is accessed, all those credits obtained that correspond to the basic training subjects will be recognised.

PROCEDURE:

  1. The student requests a study for the recognition and/or validation of credits to the Pedagogical Commission of the ESCRBCC.This request must be made formally with the presentation of the relevant form (study.pdf) to the ESCRBCC Secretary’s Office and the provision of the necessary documentation (degree, certificate of studies, etc.).
  2. The teaching committee undertakes a study based on the specific criteria. The Prefecture of Studies uses this study to issue a report that is provided to the student.
  3. The student requests recognition to be made after enrolment.
  4. College management then makes its decision on the basis of the report-proposal drawn up by the Educational Committee.
  5. The maximum period for resolving and notifying these resolutions will be three months, to be calculated from the day after the request entered the register.
  6. The expiration of the maximum period without an express resolution having been notified to the interested party, will be understood to have been dismissed on the basis of administrative silence.

4. Recognition for Participation in Activities

Article 10.3 of Royal Decree 635/2010, of 14 May, which regulates the basic content of higher education in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets (BOE 137 – 5.06.2010) states that students will be able to obtain recognition for up to 6 ECTS credits for participation in the following areas of cultural, artistic, sports, student representation, solidarity and cooperation activities.

The recognition of credits (as detailed below) is established at the ESCRBCC to this end:

Student Representation

Activity Nº of credits Item
Member of the ESCRBCC College Board 1 per academic course
Delegate of the ESCRBCC course 1 per academic course

Other Activities

Activity Nº of credits Item
Member of the ACARC Board 1 per academic course
ESCRBCC library assistant (library credits) 6 per academic course
Member of Unicum magazine Editorial Board 2 per academic course
Translation of an article from the Unicum magazine 1 per article translated
Cooperation on the Unicum magazine website 2 per academic course

The awarding of credits will be subject to the completion of the corresponding tasks. If applicable, the level of fulfilment of these tasks will be evaluated by the ESCRBCC Teaching Committee and/or the management staff. Furthermore, academic credit recognition may be obtained for participation in other areas of cultural, artistic, sports, student representation, solidarity-related and cooperation activities that are organised by the ESCRBCC, or that are external to the school.

This credit recognition regulation was approved by the ESCRBCC Senate in its session on 10 November 2011 and by the ESCRBCC College Board in its session on 1 December 2011.

General Criteria:

  1. The recipients will be students enrolled at the ESCRBCC
  2. Credits corresponding to end-of-degree or end-of-master’s projects of the studies that the student is taking will not be recognised.
  3. None of these credits are graded numerically, nor do they count for the purpose of calculating the average for the academic record.

Specific Criteria:

  1. Credits will be awarded according to the criteria of the Teaching Committee and/or the management staff of the ESCRBCC.
  2. A maximum of 6 credits will be recognised from the total that is calculated from the studies the student is taking.

Procedure:

  1. Once enrolled, the student may then request recognition.
  2. College management will make its decision on the basis of the report provided to the Secretary’s Office by the person in charge of each area.

The validation of credits

Concept

Validation is understood as the possession of a sufficient number of credits, in correspondence with those skills acquired by students, by means such as:

  • Block 1:Work experience.
  • Block 2:Artistic or professional experience.
  • Block 3:Experience acquired by means of other studies that are not included in the credit recognition and transfer system.

General Criteria

  1. The recipients will be students enrolled at the ESCRBCC.
  2. The recognition applies to the higher and Master’s degrees.
  3. Those credits corresponding to end-of-degree or end-of-master’s projects for the studies taken by the student at the time will not be recognised.
  4. The validated credits may not exceed 15% of all those credits for the course currently taken by the student.(36 credits)
  5. Validated credits do not incorporate their score and therefore do not count for the purpose of grading the file.

Specific Criteria

See the validation document (Annex 3 Modified Validation Criteria).

Procedure

  1. The student (after consulting the Prefecture of Studies) requests a study of the validation/recognition of credits to the Pedagogical Commission of the ESCRBCC.This request must be made formally with thepresentation of the appropriate form to the ESCRBCC Secretary’s Office and the provision of the necessary documentation in accordance with the specific criteria of each block.
  2. The Educational Committee then carries out a study that is then referred to by the Prefecture of Studies in order to prepare a report that is then provided to the student.
  3. The student formally requests validation after enrolment.
  4. College management then forwards the request to the General Management of Initial Vocational Training and Special System Education, which will determine the matter.

Calendar

The Department of Education has established two periods for each course so that students may undertake their validation requests:

  1. Before the first semester of the course.
  2. Before the second semester of the course.

See the Validation Calendar

Credit transfers

A credit transfer means that in those official academic documents that certify the studies undertaken by each student, all the credits obtained in any official courses taken previously, both in higher centres of artistic education and in any other centre of the European Higher Education Area that have not led to an official degree are included.

All the credits obtained by the student in any official studies taken at any university and/or higher education centre, both those transferred and those recognised, and those credits whose total was sufficient to obtain the corresponding degree will be included in their academic file and will be detailed in the European Degree Supplement.

Procedure

A request must be made to the Secretary’s Office of the ESCRBCC and the appropriate documentation must be provided, i.e. the official academic certificate of the studies completed previously in higher education centres or in another centre of the European Higher Education Area that have not led to the obtaining of an official title.

Recognition of the Erasmus credit interchange

The ESCRBCC has drawn up basic rules for general organisation and to serve as information in the academic recognition procedures of those studies and internships carried out abroad by ESCRBCC students within the Erasmus agreements.
