The general objective of the Masters in Art Education in the Conservation and Restoration of Photographic Heritage offered by the ESCRBCC is to confirm that the person holding the degree is professionally qualified to work with photographic heritage and to ensure that it is conserved and preserved for the benefit of this and future generations. Therefore, that person must be capable of assuming this responsibility and carrying out a strategic plan which includes a diagnosis, a conservation-restoration strategy, preventative conservation, the treatments involved, the documentation of and the action to be taken in relation to the photographic heritage in question.
The Masters in Conservation and Restoration of Photographic Heritage aims to train competent professionals in conservation and restoration in one of the emerging fields such as that of photographic material which is currently neglected in Catalonia and the Spanish State.
This professional qualification ensures that training is based on advanced, methodological and scientific working methods, employing contributions from the latest approaches to research into the characteristics of materials, their deterioration and treatments applied to photographic heritage.
Training includes practical studies in institutions dedicated to preserving photographic heritage and supervised by specialists who will provide the materials for the final work for the Masters.
Master in Conservation and Restoration of Photographic Heritage (60 ECTS credits)
During the 2015-2016 academic year, the ESCRBCC wrote a report on the verification of a master’s degree in conservation and restoration of photographic heritage. This report was delivered to the Agency for the Quality of the University System of Catalonia (AQU) in October 2016. The positive evaluation report of the AQU was received on April 27, 2017. Then, it was delivered to the Superior Council of Artistic Teaching, which issued a positive evaluation on July 26, 2018.
Finally, the curriculum of the master’s degree in conservation and restoration of photographic heritage was approved by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training on July 31, 2018.
